The Mid-Autumn Festival has a series of names such as the Moon’s Eve, Autumn Festival, Mid-autumn Festival, August Festival, August Meeting, Moon Chasing Festival, Moon Festival, Moon Worship Festival, Girl’s Festival or Reunion Festival. In Chinese culture, the Mid-Autumn Festival is dated on the 15th day of the eighth month of the lunar calendar every year. Because this day coincides with the half of the third autumn, it is called “Mid-Autumn”.

There are many theories about the origin of the Mid-Autumn Festival. One said it originated from the sacrificial activities of the ancient emperors. As far as agricultural production is concerned, autumn is the season of agricultural autumn harvest. In order to celebrate the joy of harvest, farmers set this day as a celebration festival.

Among the folks, the most widely circulated myth is the myth of Chang’e flying to the moon. Hou Yi shot the sun and rescued the people of Li people. Queen Mother Xi gave him a pill of elixir, and Chang’e was forced to take the elixir of life. After flying to the Moon Palace, Yi and Chang’e have suffered from separation since then. In order to commemorate Chang’e, the common people put Chang’e’s favorite food in the yard and bless her from afar. Every August 15th, they also become common people. Looking forward to the reunion of the Mid-Autumn Festival.
